Aquarium Stand

Although your Aquarium Stand is a very basic component of your whole tank setup it plays a very important role. The surface on which the tank rests needs to be a flat, water level surface that is strong enough to carry the weight of the aquarium. If not, it can result in a tank that cracks or leaks or even burst in some cases or the whole stand may collapse under the weight of the fish tank. Water weighs roughly eight pounds per one gallon of water or one kilogram per one liter of water.(8 pounds per 1 gallon or 1 kilogram per 1 liter) Calculating the volume of water is done by multiplying length by width by height of your fish tank in inches and divide it by 231 to get volume in gallons. For example 24 x 12 3/4 x 12 = 3672 / 231 = 15.85 gallons. This example is of a 15 gallon fish tank. For calculating liters multiply length by width by height in centimeter and divide it by one thousand to get volume in liters. For example 61 x 32.5 x 30.5 = 60 466.25 / 1000 = 60 liters. It is also important to note that a tank made from glass is sufficiently supported only around the bottom edges of the tank but acrylic aquariums needs support under the whole surface of the bottom of the tank. A very common stand is one made from steel. These are very basic and durable although not as appealing as a free standing cabinet which houses the whole aquarium. These cabinets also provide neat storage space for you fish food and so forth. A do it yourself aquarium stand is very easy to build if you have the knowhow and tools. They can also be bought at reasonable prices secondhand or new.
